Slough Children First hosts Foster Carer Awards – a celebration of true unsung heroes

November 1, 2022

After hosting a virtual celebration in 2021, Slough Children First’s Independent Fostering Agency (SCF IFA) were able to celebrate the work of their foster carers in person on 16 October 2022.

The private event which took place at Stoke Place, Slough, was an opportunity to acknowledge the achievements of the IFA’s foster carers, as well as thank them for their dedication, time, love and support shown to the children and young people in their care and sticking through hard times they face.

Carol Douch, Slough Children First’s Interim Director opened the awards and expressed her gratitude to all.

There are great rewards to being a carer she said. “Sometimes they (the children) show their gratitude towards you in the words they say and sometimes it can be tough to keep going but the support from the team can make a difference.”

As well as being attended by foster carers, attendees included SCF staff and its board members, the Mayor of Slough – Councillor Dilbagh S. Parmar and Mayoress Amarjit Parmar.

Tokens of appreciation were given out to SCF’s foster carers and home from carers throughout the evening, including especially honouring those who reached long service milestones (including of 10, 15 and 30 years) with their fostering journey.

Expressing his appreciation toward SCF’s foster carers and home from home carers, the Mayor of Slough said. “I’m very grateful for the great work you do. You do everything for the welfare of our children. You provide a safe, secure and suitable environment for everyone so the children can be protected and achieve their potential.”

Despite the hardships that many of us are facing, SCF would like to thank everyone who attended and supported the event, helping to make it a wonderful evening to remember. This includes:

  • Slough Foster Carers’ Association
  • Stoke Place: for providing the venue and catering for the event
  • Osborne Property Services Ltd
  • Michael Page Charity
  • Angus Steakhouse, Pizza Express, Nando’s and the Moxy Hotel
  • Ryan Norfor: for the DJing
